The Second Half 2014 Real Estate Tax bills were mailed on June 12th.  Taxes are due on July 10th. Real Estate taxes paid after the closing date will incur a penalty on the following dates:

5% - July 11, 2015     10% - July 21, 2015

The deadline for Prepay Enrollment is approaching!

If you would like to enroll in our PrePay Escrow Program the deadline to do so is July 31st for the next payment cycle. For a brief explanation of our program, please see the video to the right of Treasurer Burke.

If you are currently in our program but would like to switch over to the Automatic  Withdrawal option, the deadline for enrollment is July 31ST.

MEDINA COUNTY TREASURER JOHN BURKE TRAINS THE NEWEST PORTAGE COUNTY TREASURER, BRAD CROMES

 

Medina County Treasurer, John Burke, welcomed newly appointed Portage County Treasurer, Brad Cromes to his office in the Administration building on Tuesday, March 24th, for professional training.

“Every new county treasurer has to shadow a seasoned, experienced treasurer from a different County as part of their required hours for development.  I was honored that Treasurer Cromes chose me,” states Burke. Training topics included duties, responsibilities and the importance of cash management of half billion dollars of the public’s money in Medina County. “We work very hard to provide wonderful customer service - as well as have a family environment here in the office,” Burke continues. “It’s an important job being the banker for the County!” 

Portage County Treasurer Brad Cromes, was appointed on February 11th, 2015 and must complete 26 hours of training certified by the State Auditor and Treasurer--either by shadowing an existing experienced county treasurer and/or obtaining accreditation from a professional association. Treasurer Cromes selected both routes. 

He chose Treasurer Burke as his mentor after researching backgrounds of numerous county treasurers. Burke had a very professional background—MBA, experience with a CPA firm, and CFO of the A.I. Root Company. “His experience in both private industry and government offered great perspective on how our office can work with both” said Cromes. 

One of Treasurer Cromes’s goals for his Portage County office is to improve technology and productivity—two issues that were a priority of Treasurer Burke’s strategic plan which his office accomplished in 2012 with a new website and online tax payment options.

Many thanks to the folks that came to visit our Unclaimed Funds Table at the Medina County Home & Garden Show!!  It was a HUGE SUCCESS for many people!  We found $41,837.31 for 114 people at this event alone!  Look for our table on May 19th at the Medina Senior Day event.

2014 President of IACREOT, Karen Sheaffer, welcomed John Burke as a new member of the Board of Directors at the Semi-Annual Meeting. Treasurer Burke will serve as Division Chair representing all treasurers and financial officers.  IACREOT is one the most successful, well-respected organizations in the United States, with over 1500 active members, representing local, state, provincial, national and international associations and agencies. The members are government officials whose responsibilities fall into one of four divisions – finance, land records, courts and elections.

 

Medina County Treasurer John Burke has been a long time member of IACREOT, as well as Medina County Treasurer for 19 years. Mr. Burke has been the recipient of the IACREOT’s prestigious “Eagle Award” (Excellence in accomplishments and overcoming challengesonly one award is given to a county official in the Country each year) in 2010. Treasurer Burke also received the 1999 Ohio State Treasurer of the Year Award (only one recipient annually out of 3600 public fund managers in Ohio) as well as “Professional Development Certification” from IACREOT in 2000. He has been the Ohio Delegate Director for the past 6 years and has served on IACREOT Strategic Planning and Finance Committees. Medina County Treasurer John Burke is very excited to be a part of this organization and to make a difference.
